BESTIVAL 2016 - The Future. If you have never been to Bestival before it is safe to say the magic of it will stay with you for many years to come.

The first site of Bestival, arriving at the top of the hill overlooking the whole festival site at night, was a breathtakingly sparkling array of lights, which appeared to continue for miles. Turning the corner to this view heightens the excitement and anticipation of what is to come.

This year’s theme 'The Future' was achieved through its exotic decor and the all-important Spaceport, an area transformed to take the festival goer into their own world of beat-driven flames and fireworks, enhanced by the rocket ship backdrop.

Bestival creates a whole new genre of festivals, a world of sybaritic ravers in elaborate outfits sharing their love of music and adventure satisfied by a mystical forest of hidden stages, eclectic DJ's and chill out tents. The festival goer was offered a world of sensuous discovery at every turn with a constant supply of sensational surprises.

The main stage supported the likes of The Cure, Major Lazer, Sean Paul, Craig David and Bastille. Each performer attracting a crowd of excited people, happy to dance to what ever they see, and to share the moment with everyone surrounding them. The joy of Bestival is that no matter who is playing, whether you consciously listen to the artist or not, everyone is happy to watch and absorb the music. Other stages filled out and saw acts such as Mura Masa, Crystal Fighters, Fat Boy Slim, Diplo... the list goes on.

One of the key highlights (other than seeing Sean Paul sing Who’s That Girl, MO crowd surf or Major Lazor run into the crowd via a zorbing ball) was Sink the Pink, creating one of the largest outdoor drag parties to be seen at a festival. Filling the amphitheater with glitter coated enthusiasts from the bottom to the top, playing every 90’s throwback you could imagine.

The festival also hosted the CoOp Mix Kitchen, giving you the the festival hungry dancers an opportunity to have a fresh cooked meal in what one could only call, the most civilised festival dining experience (that I have ever experienced anyway!). Customers have the pleasure of discussing a meal option with a chef, who will then conjure up a meal, using the fresh ingredients on display. A dose of fresh vegetables is definitely what is required in this situation.

Next up is the Samsung Hyper Cube, a Virtual Reality experience curated by the help of Biffy Clyro. With VR vastly becoming one of the newest and most popular forms of demonstrative technology, this gave those who have not had the opportunity before, a chance to experience it first hand. Applying the headset, you are instantly submerged into a new world, surrounded up close and personal by the band filming their next music video. The 360º experience makes you feel as if you are stood right next to Biffy Clyro, something a fan can only dream of becoming reality.

Rob da Bank, curator of Bestival says: “Well, we went to The Future and it was well worth the trip... Another year of interstellar performances at Bestival from Major Lazer, Sean Paul, Bastille, The Cure, Glass Animals, Richie Hawtin, Years & Years, Fatboy Slim through to new blood SWMRS, Alice Jemima and Mura Masa. Where else can you get a meditation gong session, quaff bubbles in a double decker bus hot tub, go to an outrageous trannie party in the woods or enjoy mind-boggling shenanigans in Caravanserai, and nearly all of it baked in sunshine? With one headliner already booked for 2017, we hope you join the trip again”.

With even more to do, you could easily lose yourself in this world for days. Others enjoyed the largest bouncy castle in the UK, circus acts, the daily carnival, yoga, lamas and birds of prey. It is safe to say that Bestival will continue to exuberate, flourish and capture any ardent festival fan's imaginations for years to come.
