I caught up with Fame Music's, Stripped Back competition winner, Liam Doyle after his first show on his Coffee House Sessions Tour, at Soho Theatre. Liam, 21 from Glasgow talks to London Jam all about how he discovered the competition, what has been involved, his career and interests below. From the beginning of his set in Soho Theatre, Liam instantly captured his audience, with the power of his voice and guitar it was obvious to see how he won over the public vote. Originally from a musical background and family, Liam's popularity grew from strength to strength through the use of YouTube and gigging, working hard to promote himself, an overall well deserved winner!

How did you find out about the coffee house sessions?

LIAM: I had been in touch with a guy from Coallition, I had known about them before and sent of tracks. He told me about the competition and that I should enter as I had taken part in the Coffee House Sessions in Glasgow. So it's all down to him!

What Have you had to do for the Stripped back competition?

L: There was a lot of public vote and all that sort of stuff. I hate that side of things as I think music is so... Everyone likes different things and genres, like rap and pop, everything's so subjective, so I didn't really like the whole public vote. Once I was into it I thought, I am going for it, I really really want it. Its such an amazing opportunity with Abbey Road and the tour. It's a really amazing opportunity.

Have you been able to work with the judges, Huw Stevens, Nina Nesbit or Eric Appapoulay?

L : I am going on this tour with Nina, I will be working with Eric at Abbey Road for four weeks and with Huw I will doing doing a bit of radio and stuff like that.

Are you looking forward to producing your track at Abbey Road?

L: I can not wait! I went past it and its all blocked off nobody can get in! I was down a few weeks ago ,stood at the gates thinking let me in!

Is there anywhere on the tour in particular you are looking forward to playing?

L: I have been down to London quite a few times but never been to any of the places. I have been told cafe 1001 is really good and Box Park, so I am looking forward to them!

You can play guitar, are there any other instruments you can play?

L: I can play the tiniest, wee bit of piano. I have a twin brother and he plays piano. I do like to play in a band, I played rhythm guitar, but it works for what I am doing.

Is your twin coming on the tour with you?

L: No, he lives in Paris!

When did you start singing?

L: Totally cliche but I have been singing as long as I can remember, I never thought I was any good at it, my mum and dad used to laugh at me a lot. Then my brother started playing piano and singing, I recorded them and uploaded them because I thought they were really good. He started to get some attention from it, so I thought, I want to see how it would go if I did it. Since then the YouTube thing went a lot better than expected and the feedback from that maybe four, five years ago made me want to gig and get out there!

I saw your YouTube page and over 10,000 subscribers! How did you build that following?

L: I honestly don't know! We started out by my brother posting videos of himself and then I joined in. Then we would do some together and then I started. So its our YouTube page now but it started out as his. Now I think its really hard to post a YouTube video where you are just sitting and playing, you need to have a big production and stuff like that, but at the time it was a lot more intimate.

Do you get a lot of support from your followers?

L: Our following is crazy! I was looking to put on a tour, so checked the demographics, theres places like Malaysia, Kazakstan and all these different kinds of places, which I am not going to be able to get too. You never know!

What is the music scene like in Glasgow?

L: Its pretty busy! It's nothing compared to London, but theres a lot of people and everyone sort of knows each other.

Do you have a favourite place?

L: King Tuts!

Why?!

L: Its where Oasis was found, not that I am a big Oasis fan but it just has a lot of prestige. It's quite small, maybe 200 people. It's not the biggest venue I have played but I just get a good vibe.

Where would your dream place be to play?

L: T in the Park, 100%.

Mainstage?

L: Yes, with a band! Not just ma and the band. I would too. The atmosphere there is just incredible.

Do you have any plans after the tour other than recording your track?

L: I will be recording with a producer in Glasgow, we will be trying to get some more songs and experiment more with the tracks. See what sounds we can get, I love acoustic but I want to include some more different sounds.
