The second part to the great interview with duo Uncle Frank.

What has been the funniest thing to happen to you whilst performing together?

F: On this tour or ever?

Either!?

F: Theres loads, I’ll be here all day!

N: One of the other bands that we do, I sing and Frank plays drums, we had done the sound check and everything sounded great. After the sound check Frank places his stool where it needs to be, as when we come out on stage its in darkness, and one of our technicians thought he was doing good cleaning up, moving things and making sure everything’s alright. The lights go down Frank comes on and sits down. The lights come on and Franks just fallen backwards during the first bar and he had to be pushed backwards as the seat had been moved. To give him credit, he didn’t miss a note. That was funny.

F: I forgot about that. I have loads of stories. Most of them best I don’t tell. Someone made me tea once, just before I went on stage in Holland. It was a special kind of tea, and half way through the set Goofy, you know Goofy and Pluto from the cartoons, they popped up in the audience. The show was being recorded, so there were mic’s everywhere, I sing as well as play drums, and I am playing looking out to the audience where this 60foot technicolour Pluto hops up, and I am just sat there thinking, holy sh!t, I was looking around and the guy who made me the tea is from a rap band called Cyrprus Hill.

We were at the High Times Award show, which is a big award show for who grows the best marijuana around the world. Its all legal over there, so someone had strained this tea, which was really powerful. I was up on stage it was crazy as Pluto starts break dancing, and I am like NO WAY MAN PLUTO! I didn’t realise its all being picked up on the mic, so when I hear it back I am thinking, I sound crazy. Its like that scene in the Tenacious D film when all of a sudden it goes all multi coloured and they are sliding down rainbows… I literally had that whilst I was playing in front of 4000 people, and I was trying to keep the beat together watching these cartoons! Hearing that show back was absolutely hilarious. I am saying such crazy stuff, like introducing myself to Pluto. I have thousands of stories like that, but you will just get the one today.

You have done a lot of collaborations already, but as Uncle Frank who would you like to collaborate with next?

F: Nobody really. Musically we have people who play on the record. Theres a guy called Pete Levon who is an amazing keyboard player, who plays in the Blind Boys of Alabama, huge American bands, and he sometimes does some keyboard work on our records and that’s amazing. I would like to do a duet with Charles Bradley.

N: I would love to work with the Finn brothers, Tim and Neil Finn, I would love to sing with them. Recently we have talked about working with Brian May. His (Franks) friend knows someone who is friends with him.

F: I am going to make that official. I am going to try and get to Brian and see if he will do that. That would be wicked. Prince! But that would never happen.

N: Prince is the master.

What are your future plans?

F: We have some big plans, we are off to New York to finish mixing our record with Tim, and have some showcase gigs out there. Then we are starting to put together videos for our next singles from the record. So quite busy! We will probably play a couple of festivals, try and finish the next album which is to be released in April.

Thanks for the chat guys!
